Welcome, and please come in!

My name is Marsha, and it is so nice to meet you! I appreciate that you took the time to stop by for a visit!

If I were meeting you here at my home, by this point, my dog, JoJo, would be joining us to greet you. With much embarrassment, I would try to run interference between you and JoJo because she would make a bee-line for you in an attempt to greet you in her own, personal style: she'd jump on you and attempt to lick your face. It’s JoJo’s way of giving you a personal welcome as well as the reason we failed dog obedience.

“She’s a friendly dog, however, she is a jumper,” I would explain as I lead you out to my kitchen all the while calming my dog.

Once you and I arrive in the kitchen, depending on your comfort level, I would either release JoJo or close the gate that separates the kitchen from the rest of the house.

Next, I would offer you a seat at my kitchen table while I simultaneously offer you something to drink. Then I would sashay over to my kitchen sink, wash my hands, and grab us each a little something to wet our whistle whilst we chat.

I think that the first thing that you would notice about me is my big, curly hair. Next you would notice that I talk a lot with my hands and laugh often.

After getting our beverages, I would join you at my kitchen table and ask about what type of photo session interests you. Then, if you brought samples that you printed from various websites or cut out of various magazines, we would pour over them and discuss how we could make that work for you.

If, on the other hand, you had not yet conceptualized a photo shoot, we could conjure up some ideas by me asking you questions. I should warn you here, my children claim that I ask a LOT of questions!

But alas, here we are on the internet. So, in an attempt to convey my essence to you through cyberspace, I present for your consideration the following:

  • First, there are three things that are personally important to me: God, my family, and my friends.

  • I’m more of a night owl than an early morning person.

  • I’ve been married for the past 31 years -- I know, I know! That’s probably more years than you’ve been alive!

  • I’m an old-school camper -- I still sleep in a tent on the ground!

  • I enjoy Bob Seger, Tom Petty, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, The Eagles, and Bruce Springsteen -- listed in no particular order.

  • I love to cook -- if I wasn’t pursuing photography, I’d be opening a neighborhood cafe.

  • I’m a hugger -- but only after we spend some time together!

  • My hair is big and curly, and I don’t know what to do with it!

  • I'm into weightlifting -- specifically: I squat, benchpress, and deadlift!

  • I have a bad habit of saying the expletive s * * t -- but only at the gym or in the car.

  • I believe that you are the sum of the five people with whom you choose to spend the majority of your time -- choose your friends wisely!

  • At the end of the day, as I sleepily lay in my bed, I list three things for which I am grateful.

My first photography class was at the University of Minnesota. Presently, I am enrolled in photography classes through MPS Community Education Adult Enrichment as well as the New York Institute of Photography (NYIP).

I have a membership with KelbyOne and the Professional Photographers of America. I watch all kinds of photography videos, too! Everything from photography educational videos to photography manufacturers' how-to videos. My most recent video was a MasterClass taught by Annie Leibovitz.

My goal for 2018 is to take the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) exam and become a certified member.

I believe I will always be a student of photography because I owe it to you, as well as myself, to continue to learn and grow.

Wow! This is a lengthy read, but I hope it provides you with an idea of who is behind Marsha Jo Photography by way of a written introduction.

Gratefully,

Marsha

Please allow me to introduce myself . . .
